Douglas Murray offers some appropriately negative insights into the decline of the West in the first 10 minute video. From where will the West find its meaning? IMHO most likely not from outside itself but from its underlying Faith - Christianity and from the moral & intellectual history built upon that Faith.
Re-education camps are one end of the spectrum of solutions. At the other end is what we're doing, where our officials utterly fail to comprehend the problem of Islam as a competing political and value system at all and instead make life difficult for those among us who do recognise the issues.
Of course we in the-last-direction-on-the-compass-that-retains-some-memory-of-freedom, i.e. the West, tend to sneer at the suggestion that we may well lose many of our freedoms should big tech combine with a repressive government. More fool us then.
After 911 the Patriot Act came into being. In order to "protect" Americans many Americans became perfectly happy to sacrifice the freedoms that, if you'd asked them on the 10th of September 2001, they might have gone to prison to preserve. Such is the power of pressing need. Even without a disaster to act as a catalyst we see ever more encroachment on our freedoms and the manipulation of information through media outlets, governments, Police and large social media and search engines.
It seems to me that the draconian Chinese measures of surveillance and personal grading are already under way in the West. I used to think that all we needed was the right kind of serious crisis to initiate our subjugation. I no longer think such a crisis is necessary, being scolded and shamed is doing a fine job of driving dissent underground and paving the way for a system of controls that opponents will be too ashamed to speak against when it finally arrives.
