Top NZ Islamic Scholar's unsurprising jew hatred
Time for our Race Relations Conciliator and others like her to start doing some reading. They are following the same well-worn path as have their peers overseas.
Please: get a clue.
Sahib's Antisemitism is unsurprising because Jews are considered the ancient enemies of the true prophet Muhammad, the true God Allah and the true religion of Islam.
As Robert Spencer recently posted regarding yet another Muslim “human rights activist” who said Hitler was a “great man” who “exposed truth about Jews”
Hatred of Jews is deeply ingrained in the Qur’an, which calls Jews “the most intense of the people in animosity toward the believers” (5:82), and says that they “have been put under humiliation wherever they are overtaken, except for a covenant from Allah and a rope from the Muslims. And they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allah and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in the verses of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and transgressed.” (3:110)
It says that Allah transformed the disobedient Jews into apes and pigs (2:63-65; 5:59-60; 7:166). It says that they say Ezra is Allah’s son, and are consequently accursed (9:30). And there are many other passages heaping contempt and scorn upon them. Analysts routinely think that attacks like this one happen because of the conflict between Israel and the “Palestinians,” but in reality the enmity goes much deeper than that.
Race Relations commissioner Dame Susan Devoy has condemned an Auckland Imam's anti-Semitic hate speech.
A video has surfaced online showing Dr Mohammad Anwar Sahib speaking at the At-Taqwa mosque in Manukau.
"The Christians are using the Jews, and the Jews are using everybody," Sahib said in a sermon filmed in November. "Because they think that their protocol is to rule the entire world....
David Cumin, a member of the New Zealand Jewish Council, said Sahib's speeches were concerning particularly as they were broadcast publicly.
"It's those kind of messages that might radicalise the people he speaks to. [Graeme: Indeed. Preaching based on historic Sharia will tend to have that affect]
"This is intolerance that affects us all as New Zealanders and we need to stand up to." [Graeme: The "intolerance" is from the Qur'an and from Muhammad himself. Please, do feel free to stand up to it, but any opposition needs to address the real source of the problem i.e. the problem is not this single man]
HRC spokeswoman Christine Ammunson said it was made aware of the video by members of the New Zealand Jewish community.
Devoy said such speeches had no place in New Zealand. "We live in one of the most ethnically diverse nations on earth as well as one of the most peaceful: this is because we are a tolerant nation," she said in a statement.
"This kind of intolerance is not welcome here in any form - prejudice against Jewish people has no place in New Zealand."
Devoy said the HRC has contacted leaders of the NZ Jewish Council as well as the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand.
"We urge Kiwis to recognise that these are the views of a single person and are not held by every single Muslim New Zealander, however questions need to be answered," she said. [Graeme: Of course they are not held by every single Muslim. They are though firmly grounded in Sharia whether every single Muslim believes it or even knows it. As such they carry enormous authority for those who are serious about following the pattern of the Perfect man who was wholly pleasing to Allah – Muhammad. There’s your problem]
"We have asked for an urgent response from FIANZ."
Ethnic Communities Minister Sam Lotu-Iiga called Sahib's speech "offensive and insulting" and said his comments "are way out of step with New Zealand's egalitarian values". [Graeme: Such speech is occurring all over Europe and is equally against historic European egalitarianism. In this respect there is nothing special about New Zealand]
"I have spoken to FIANZ President Hazim Arafeh and he assures me Dr Sahib's views do not represent the beliefs of that organisation or most Muslim New Zealanders," he said.
"It disgusts me that anti-Semitic views are being recorded and posted online. It harms New Zealanders reputation as a tolerant and welcoming people. It also concerns me that New Zealanders could be influenced by this," Lotu-Iiga said.
The FIANZ has been approached for comment.
[Graeme: I wish them well in their pursuit of an honest comment - but perhaps we shouldn't hold our collective breaths. I have difficulty seeing how FIANZ can sincerely apologise for an attitude so firmly based on the Qur'an and Muhammad. I imagine we will hear more broad statements about "not the spirit of Islam" and "not representative of the FIANZ". Please prove me wrong FIANZ]
Four years ago I wrote the following letter to the editor of our local paper in response to some statements made by a local Muslim. In it I mention Dr Sahib. It provides some background on him. Soon after my letter was published I was no longer able to find on the FIANZ website any mention of the three Ulema board members of which Dr. Sahib was a part. However Sahib is a member of this board and is listed as such on the FIANZ site as of today.
These are among the top scholars of Sharia Law in New Zealand. The Islam Online University states that he is also the advisor to the New Zealand Government on Halal matters.
And everyone is apparently totally cool with this.
Read my letter below.
"Humanity shares a single desire for peace," says Zayd Blissett. But what does peace look like according to the Federation of Islamic Associations of NZ, to wh[ich] he so glowingly refers?
The board of three scholars at FIANZ includes at least one hard-line Saudi-trained Salafi, Dr Anwar Sahib. Sahib also teaches at the Islam Online University founded and run by Dr Bilal Phillips*.
Banned from entering Britain in 2010 for hate speech against gays, women and other religions, Phillips argues it is permissible to imitate Mohammed and marry a 9-year-old girl.
After his New Zealand preaching tours in 2006 and 2007 became known, FIANZ denounced him and said it would not invite him back. Yet FIANZ sees no problem when one of its top scholars teaches under Phillips' direction.
On the other hand when the Malaysia-based "Sisters of Islam" advocate for equal rights for Muslim women at an Auckland forum last year they stated that a "conservative, literal and narrow interpretation" of Islam is the toughest problem facing Muslims. Yet FIANZ president Javed Khan dismissively labelled them a "splinter group".
What kind of "peace" is this when the group that speaks for all Muslims demands that we "implement a zero tolerance against anyone determined to cause rage and injury to the religious and cultural sensitivities of others" while promoting such doctrines? Kiwis "feel rage and injury" when confronted with death sentences on gays, marriages of 9-year-old girls and oppression of women.
* Dr. Sahib is still listed as a lecturer at the Islam Online University:~
Dr. Muhammad Anwar Sahib Almadani was born in Fiji and spent part of his life also studying there. At the age of 14 he went to the Islamic University of Madeenah to study the Arabic language course. He continued to study in the high school of the University which he completed in 1985, and then furthered his study in the faculty of Islamic creed and Dawah. In 1989 he got his B.A from this faculty, as well as acquiring the special certificate on Dawah. After enrolling in the faculty of Quran he gained a Masters qualification in 1994, and then a doctorate in Quran exegesis in 1999.
He has presented Islamic programs on Voice of Islam, New Zealand and various radio channels as well as delivered lectures in various topics mostly in New Zealand, but also in Saudi Arabia, USA, Australia, Fiji, Malaysia, India, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands. He has also authored a few books in Arabic and English that are yet to be published.
He is a founder member and chairman of At-Taqwa Trust, Auckland, New Zealand. His current roles include that of Imaam, Khateeb and religious advisor. He is also the Secretary for the Ulama board of New Zealand and advisor for Halaal issues to the NZ government.
So this gentleman has been all around the Pacific preaching this sort of thing. What do you think? Will our leaders and the leaders of FIANZ do anything about this? Really guys, how hard was it to find this information? A few minutes on Google. How is it that no one in authority in the Race Relations community or New Zealand Government can seem to find this stuff out?
It is long past time for some real pressure to be put on the FIANZ about their scholars. Why is he still holding responsible positions? Why is this man still on the board of Ulema? Or advising the government on Halal issues? Does nobody care?
This inaction is why some of us are not very sanguine about our leaders being able to handle the truth. Can you blame us?
