It would be refreshing for NZ Muslim groups, such as FIANZ, to publicly condemn the Brotherhood, distance themselves from the Brotherhood - these things we shoud expect them to do without prompting - and then to explain exactly why they took such actions. The last point is vital. Too often we hear from Islamic groups that they condemn this or that group or some violent activity as being unrepresentative of - indeed against - Islam. But we are not told exactly why. We get platitudes. We get theologically bland statements that sound convincing enough to the uninformed, but lack depth. We need detailed explanations. Every time the light is shone on Islam in New Zealand we also need to hear how our Islamic groups are working to counteract violent and supremicist teachings in NZ mosques, schools and colleges.
And that we do not ever hear.
