but . . . But Turkey is Moderate!
Dr Daniel Pipes notes,
A recent study has found that 60% of German Turks align themselves with Turkey’s Islamist President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has funded and built hundreds of mosques throughout Germany led by imams who receive their instructions from Ankara. In Holland and Bulgaria, the creation of Turkish-Islamic political parties has created tensions between the two governments and Ankara, while Denmark is experimenting with the assimilation of migrants through imposed regulations aimed at countering feelings of alienation and marginalization.
Frank Gaffney is also deeply concerned about Turkey's change of direction under the Sharia supremacist President Erdogan and the very real concern this represents for Europe and the Middle East as he develops what Erdogan calls his "new Caliphate" at the expense of Western civilisation and freedom in general.
A Turkish contributor to the Middle East Forum points out yet another disturbing trend in that country:~
- 40% of girls under 18 in Turkey are forced into marriage (according to Turkish Philanthropy Funds).
- In January 2018, a government body under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's jurisdiction suggested that, according to Islamic law, girls as young as 9 and boys as young as 12 could marry.
- "Low education" means almost all of Turkey: The average schooling in the country is a mere 6.5 years.
- In Turkey you may abuse a 13-year-old and walk free, but you may not tease the president.
So we see there are three realms of degeneration: that of morality inside Turkey, Turkey's influence on its ex-pats and on governments in general in Europe and its expansionist regional agenda under Erdogan.
Certainly a critical factor is Erdogan's own personality and drive for control - a man worthy of the sort of scrutiny so openly given to the current President of the United States - yet the place of Islam in forming the beliefs, laws and priorities of Turkey is regularly overlooked. It shouldn't be. As Dr Pipes notes "In Eastern Europe ... the conversation is mainly about the incompatibility of Christian and Muslim cultures." I pray dear reader that this is where our conversation will be centred in New Zealand.
Certainly there will always be problematic personalities but the crucial issue is, as always, the central place of a Faith which incorporates every aspect of life - including the political - and which clearly delineates in its classical historic form the abyssmal treatment of women, non-Muslims and other minorities.
Should the adherents of Sharia compliant Islam continue to grow in New Zealand we will inevitably face the same problems as so many northern hemisphere countries are now facing. But let's always be clear: the problem is the Sharia compliant belief system of many Muslims, the problem is not all Muslims.
Do look back to this article I posted last year on an attempt at law reform for women in the equally famously "moderate" Malaysia - it didn't work out well at all did it? If this happened among "moderate" Malaysia's politicians why on earth would anything different be expected elsewhere in the world?
We are being shown in Malaysia and Turkey what always happens when Muslims place Islam first. Islam is an existential threat to us.
Will we take the warning?
